Listen To: Crabs with Boog Powell

You haven't lived until you eat steamed crabs with Boog Powell. The Christmas In Maryland crew sat down with Boog and enjoyed three dozen ''hogs'' at The Crab Deck on Kent Island .

Pictured here are former Baltimore Oriole Boog Powell, his good friends Randy and Kathy McNeece, Christmas In Maryland Producer/Engineer and Music Director Joe Evelius and John Patti's son Russ Patti.

We talked about Boog's fondest Maryland Christmas memory. It came during the Christmas of 64. Boog took his 2 year old son, JW, to Hecht's in the Northwood Shopping Center in Baltimore to see Santa. However, Santa was not in. Word spread that Orioles first baseman Boog Powell had stopped by and not long after that Santa, who looked a lot like Boog's friend John Potter, showed up at Boog's front door. Boog says Santa made him look like a midget. JW heard the commotion and ran into Santa's arms to read him his Christmas wish list. Boog says once JW was back in bed, Santa helped himself to a pack of Boog's hot dogs, chasing it with some bourbon and off he went.

Did we mention that Boog and Randy like to measure their crab catches in beer cans. Boog says the biggest crab they have ever caught was two beer cans in length and weighed about a pound. Like I said, you haven't lived until you eat steamed crabs with Boog.
