Listen To: John Harbaugh's Travelling Christmas Show
The Christmas In Maryland holiday party had Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh, Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco, and Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps as guests this year. Harbaugh remembers Christmas growing up as a ''travelling show.'' He recalls packing up the station wagon and heading for Crestline , Ohio to Grandma and Grandpa Harbaugh for Christmas Eve where the highlight was watching Uncle Jerry try to make it down the steps in his Santa costume. There was always German sauerkraut on the Christmas Eve menu, something he misses.
Christmas Day would find the Harbaughs in Cleveland , Ohio to be with his mom's side of the family. He also remembers plopping on his dad's belly on the floor watching some type of football on television on Christmas Day.
Coach Harbaugh says football Christmases are a little different because you have to find time here and there to celebrate in between practices. The Harbaugh family Christmas tree would always be his mom's job to set up.
Usually for Christmas the best gift he gets from his family is ''time.'' He considers himself really blessed because he understands the real meaning of Christmas. John Harbaugh's Christmas wish is that ''the spirit of Christmas and Christ grow throughout the world each day and that we take care of one another.'' He also wants everyone to think about ''our heroes'' serving this country who won't be home for Christmas. He visited some of the troops in Iraq over the summer of 2009 and calls them Americans who remain enthusiastic about their mission.
Joe Flacco says he almost never gave his siblings gifts at Christmas. Flacco says that was for Santa and Mom and Dad to do. Flacco recalls Santa usually treating them pretty well over the years. His favorite Christmas gift of all time was a foosball table.
Michael Phelps says he has always been hard to buy for because if he wants something he just goes and buys it himself. The most important thing to him during Christmas is to be with his family.
